IC4F

Reference Architecture for Industrial Communication

Industrial Communication for Factories (IC4F) was concerned with the development of a reference architecture for industrial communication including 5G, with a focus on IT security, reliability, real-time capability and resilience of the systems.

Contents of the Concluded Project

The IC4F project (Industrial Communication for Factories) aimed to develop solutions for secure, robust and real-time communication in the manufacturing industry. By the end of the project in 2020, 15 project partners from industry and research had developed a technology toolbox for a trustworthy and interoperable infrastructure.

Key technologies from the areas of 5G, multi-access edge computing (MEC), cloud computing, virtualization, and industrial monitoring and analytics were used. The project outcomes are intended to serve as a guide for selecting the right ICT technologies, in line with the new Industrie 4.0 requirements and the specific migration approach.

More information can be found on the official project website.

The project received funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) as part of the PAiCE funding program.
