About the project

Schaeffler and Waveye, collaborating under ARENA2036, drive improvements in worker safety in automated factories based on novel imaging radar systems.

The project's goal is to deploy imaging radar systems to prevent accidents in highly automated factories, with a particular focus on collisions between humans, robots, and forklifts. The advantage of imaging radars compared to other technologies is their large range, allowing them to cover extensive production areas and provide safety at a low cost per square meter. Furthermore, thanks to advanced object recognition software, employees do not need to wear identification tags, which enhances both safety and comfort.

In addition to a high range of up to 80 meters with a single radar sensor, precision plays a crucial role. Humans are detected with an accuracy of over 99.9% in less than half a second.

Since the system is integrated into the building infrastructure, the autonomy levels of robots and AGVs are not restricted but optimally utilized. This infrastructure-bound integration ensures a consistent level of safety for machines, regardless of their individual autonomy levels.

About Waveye

Waveye specializes in imaging radars for multimodal AI in the real world, enabling effective coexistence between humans and machines. Waveye's radars provide Spatio-Dynamic Perception, so that the robots not only see in 3D but can instantaneously capture any move. The company is headquartered in Palo Alto, with a strong presence in Stuttgart.
