PhotonDetect
The goal of the PhotonDetect project is the joint development of high-performance single-photon detector systems (SNSPDs—Superconducting Nanowire Single-Photon Detectors) for use in photonic quantum computers. Working closely together, QuiX Quantum and Single Quantum are developing a scalable detection platform tailored to the requirements of future quantum processors that can be transitioned to mass production in the long term.
About the Project
The development approach involves the step-by-step expansion of detection capacity—from initial demonstrator systems with 20 detectors to fully integrated systems with up to 240 single-photon detectors. In addition to the continuous increase in the number of channels, the focus is on optimizing system detection efficiency, developing low-maintenance cryostats with long maintenance intervals, and integrating specialized readout electronics. The goal is to create a high-performance, reliable, and scalable detection infrastructure that meets the requirements of future photonic quantum computers in terms of precision, stability, and integrability.
The systems developed enable highly efficient detection of individual photons while maintaining high temporal resolution, making them a key component for high-performance quantum applications in the fields of quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing. The project lays the foundation for a long-term industrial supply partnership and makes a significant contribution to the development of a European value chain for photonic quantum technologies.
