About the project

The "CARS 2.0" project (Cluster Automotive Region Stuttgart 2.0 - Transformation Network for Automotive and Mechanical Engineering) was launched as a comprehensive overall concept by various partners under the coordination of Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart GmbH to enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the automotive and mechanical engineering sector in particular to master this change and achieve a successful transformation. CARS 2.0 utilizes the specific expertise of those involved and makes it accessible to the target groups - SMEs and start-ups from the Stuttgart and Neckar-Alb regions.

The joint CARS2.0 project is coordinated by the WRS. Partners are the Bildungswerk der Baden-Württembergischen Wirtschaft e.V., the Stuttgart Region Chamber of Crafts, the Stuttgart Region Chamber of Industry and Commerce, IG Metall Baden-Württemberg, ARENA 2036, e-mobil BW GmbH, Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsregion e.V. and Südwestmetall.

CARS2.0 is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.

Main focus of the project

Information and sensitization

Smaller companies in particular generally do not have the necessary resources to deal with the current changes in detail. In order to be able to recognize this change in good time and act accordingly, companies should be made aware of the challenges and opportunities of the transformation process and support services, and the development opportunities for employees should be highlighted.

Networking and exchange

Networking and improving communication between companies, the skilled trades, research and training providers is crucial for the successful transformation of the regional economy. The exchange is created through the creation and expansion of networks and through the further development of various networking events.

Diversification and market preparation

Alternative drive options can lead to considerable uncertainty within the automotive network, especially as the core competence of many companies in the Stuttgart region is centered around the combustion engine. Larger companies in particular are focusing more and more on electromobility, while small and medium-sized companies are finding this more difficult. CARS 2.0 therefore supports companies in tapping into new markets and business areas.

Qualification and further training

The changes to vehicles as a result of digitalization and alternative drive systems have a direct impact on the qualifications required by employees. In cooperation with universities and vocational colleges in the Stuttgart region, works councils and HR managers from companies in the Stuttgart and Neckar-Alb regions, training content is being developed and implemented in specific courses.
