Past events of the IILS
March 24, 2022 & April 05, 2022: IILS Forum
Wire Harness Forum innovation initiative
This year, the virtual IILS forum was held for the second time on March 24 and April 5, 2022 by the Wire Harness innovation initiative. Over the course of six hours, participants were given in-depth insights into the development, manufacture and production of the wire harness, as well as presented and discussed the main areas of work and challenges of the individual sub-projects.
The annual forum of the Innovation Initiative Wire Harness (IILS) was again very well received in 2022. A total of almost 200 guests attended the two events, which were held in German and English. The many international guests in particular, who came from Japan and the USA, among other countries, are proof of this: The ARENA2036 initiative is hitting an important nerve. Many of those present reported similar challenges within the industry. In the summer, the IILS will also publish DIN standard 7-2036 on the automation of wire harnesses. The first draft can already be ordered via the link on the DIN website.
Automotive wiring systems: Ninth international congress
On October 12 and 13, 2021, the ninth edition of the international congress "Automotive Wiring Systems" took place as a digital format. With over 200 participants and ten exhibiting/supporting companies, the congress was able to connect a diverse and international community around the wiring systems of the future. Georg Sterler, former Head of Wiring Systems Development at AUDI, chaired the congress and moderated the specialist presentations, which were held on various topics under the umbrella theme of "Intelligent systems for sustainable mobility".
The congress focused on
- The electrical system of new vehicles (BMW iX, Daimler S-Class and EQS)
- New wiring system architectures and future bus systems
- Automation in production
- Increasing the reliability of wiring systems and their components
- Environmental targets of the VW Group for future wiring systems
As ARENA2036 research coordinator and head of the Wire Harness innovation initiative, Georg Schnauffer was represented as a speaker. He gave a keynote speech on the project objective and the current project status of automating the wire harness.
In 2022, the "Automotive Wiring Systems" congress will celebrate its tenth anniversary. Further information and registration here.

First digital edition of the IILS Forum
This year, the first virtual IILS forum was organized by the Wire Harness innovation initiative on 25.03.2021. Over six hours, the participants were given in-depth insights into the development, manufacture and production of the wire harness, as well as presenting and discussing the main areas of work and challenges of the individual sub-projects.
The approximately 90 participants from the various areas of the wire harness value chain were given a comprehensive overview of the project. The subsequent discussions with the IILS experts led to an interesting exchange of content-related topics and new points of contact that could potentially play a role in the IILS sub-projects in the future. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants for their interest, as well as the IILS partners who are supporting the Wire Harness innovation initiative project.
Automotive wiring systems: Eighth international congress
The 8th International Wiring Systems Congress was held in Ludwigsburg in 2020. The main topics were current trends and challenges in wiring systems development and production such as The main topics included:
- Conservation of resources
- Intelligent signal transmission
- Innovative architectural concepts
- Robust energy supply
- Release complexity
In addition to the interesting and varied presentations from the industry, there was a premiere to celebrate: the first public appearance of the Wire Harness Innovation Initiative (IILS) in front of an expert audience. In addition to topics that affect the entire industry, such as the strategic challenges for automated wire harness development, production and assembly, various scenarios were presented that will affect the Wire Harness of tomorrow. The response received from the specialist audience suggested that the topics presented struck a nerve. Today, we can confirm this with 17 partners from different levels of the value chain.
