Wire Harness innovation initiative

As one of the most elaborate and complex individual components, the Wire Harness plays an important role for the entire automotive industry. In the future, the performance of the wire harness will have to meet new challenges with electromobility and autonomous driving.

The Wire Harness Innovation Initiative (IILS)

Automation and modularization as well as the associated new production, manufacturing and assembly technologies open up opportunities to improve the added value of this key component. At the same time, the complexity and wide range of variants in terms of automation present a number of challenges that can only be solved on a cross-company basis.

In order to meet these challenges, companies from different levels of the value chain have joined forces to develop standardization approaches and impulses as part of a pre-competitive collaboration and to introduce them to corresponding standardization committees such as the DIN Working Group of DIN72036.

The Wire Harness innovation initiative is an open cooperation network of actively involved industry representatives who are working on various pre-competitive topics as part of the ARENA2036 research campus with the aim of advancing standardization.

The Wire Harness innovation initiative is open to interested participants from Germany and abroad who are able and willing to make a technical contribution.

Aim of the IILS

The aim is to promote general technical progress through methodical and systemic approaches and general technical or scientific procedures aimed at raising standardization in the field of wire harness automation to a new level. In doing so, the connection between the automation of the wire harness in engineering and in production or assembly is to be taken into account.

In the Wire Harness innovation initiative, partners from all stages of the value chain are working together on a pre-competitive basis as part of ARENA2036 to drive forward the automation of wire harnesses in development, production and assembly through standardization.

Thereby:

  • Future requirements for the Wire Harness of the future
  • Potential of new technologies identified
  • and future scenarios are derived,
  • to open up opportunities for standardization.
