CAD Transformation & OpenUSD World Building
How are static three-dimensional design data transformed into fully functional, interactive, and metaverse-ready digital twins? Using a KUKA industrial robot as an example, the real-world lab at ARENA2036 demonstrates the end-to-end process for processing and kinematizing geometric data. Instead of lifeless visual shells, the result is intelligent assets that react dynamically to events and control signals.
Kinematics, Rigging, and PhysX Dynamics
In the first phase, static CAD assemblies are organized into composite OpenUSD hierarchies. During this kinematic rigging process, axes of rotation, motion constraints, and mass properties are precisely defined.
The integration of the NVIDIA PhysX engine gives the robot model realistic physical properties. As a result, the structure not only responds to geometric specifications but also takes into account stiffness, collision bodies, and dynamic forces during acceleration and braking maneuvers.
OmniGraph Animation & Procedural Scene Control
The logical control and procedural animation of the KUKA robot are handled within the NVIDIA Omniverse platform via OmniGraph (Action Graphs and Animation Graphs). The node networks process incoming signals, adjust target joint angles, and trigger event-based actions throughout the scene.
This design pattern enables machine builders and system integrators to transform conventional CAD libraries into standardized, “metaverse-ready” assets and seamlessly integrate them into complex factory simulations.
