Robotics Challenge
Robotics Challenge for the automation of wire harness assembly in the automotive industry
The Wire Harness is one of the few areas in automotive production that is largely not automated. Can modern robotics help here? The Transformation Hub Wire Harness writes a robotics challenge which that reflects the current challenges facing the industry and manufacturers and system integrators of robotic systems and system integrators of robotic systems with their solutions.
Significance of the wiring harness in the automobile
The Wire Harness, as the electrical backbone of every vehicle, enables seamless communication and energy flow between all electrical and electronic components. Despite its crucial role in modern vehicles, the assembly of this highly complex individual component is still mainly carried out manually. This is due to the enormous variety and complexity caused by different vehicle models and modern trends such as electromobility and autonomous driving.
The Robotics Challenge
The challenge provides for the automation of a defined assembly process of the wire harness using typical components under defined framework conditions. The processing steps include, among other things, the identification and correct positioning of a socket housing into a receptacle, the insertion of various contact parts into the receptacle housing according to a specified chamber configuration and the socket housing as well as ensuring the correct latching of the contacts in the end position.
Participation in the Robotics Challenge
All interested companies are cordially invited to get in touch with the ARENA2036 contact persons, Mr. Reichert and Mr. Rumpelt.
A virtual information event for interested participants will also be held on November 20 to present the challenge and clarify any unanswered questions. The challenge itself runs from December 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024.
Furthermore, the Wire Harness transformation hub will be presented during the Productronica 2023 in Munich with an information stand.
