Review of the AAS Hackathon on February 20, 2025
On February 20, 2025, a practice-oriented AAS Hackathon took place on the premises of ARENA2036 in Stuttgart. Organized by the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance and ARENA2036, the event offered a unique opportunity to actively apply the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and develop innovative solutions. Technology enthusiasts worked together on exciting challenges and deepened their knowledge of the AAS.
Practical application and collaborative work
Whether beginner or expert - the hackathon was a valuable experience for all participants. In addition to learning about new concepts, the focus was on practical work and exchanging ideas with other AAS enthusiasts. The event offered two thematic focuses, which were worked on in parallel:
- AAS Security: Alexander Gordt (Objective Partner AG) presented the current status of the AAS specification Part 4. In the subsequent workshop, the security requirements for the Asset Administration Shell were analyzed and compared with practical experience. Particular attention was paid to the security aspects in the context of the Product Change Notification (PCN) use case.
- PCN Hacking Challenge: Under the leadership of Ricardo Dunkel (OI4) and Christian Heinrich (OI4), a demonstrator for product change notifications was developed. Building on the findings from previous hackathons, the participants were able to actively work on the implementation and also consider security-relevant aspects.
Structured process and intensive collaboration
The day began with an introduction to the general roadmap of the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance and an overview of the current and future ARENA-X infrastructure. The participants then split into the two tracks to work on the specific topics.
After a joint lunch break, the work in the groups continued intensively until the results were presented and discussed in the large group in the afternoon. The event ended with a final reflection and farewell by the organizers.
Successful exchange and valuable insights
The AAS Hackathon proved to be a complete success. The participants were not only able to deepen their knowledge, but also make valuable contacts and take away new ideas for their own projects. The practical implementation and direct application of the Asset Administration Shell in real use cases made the day particularly instructive and inspiring.
The organizers would like to thank all participants for their commitment and look forward to further joint events to actively shape the future of the Asset Administration Shell !
